ANC Youth League president Julius Malema drank expensive champagne, danced to Mafikizolo's live performances and even acted as a DJ at an exclusive nightclub in Mauritius at the weekend.
He was one of 300 guests at the wedding of his friend, Limpopo-based property developer David Mabilu, 42, and fiancée Phala Mokgophi, 38, who reportedly splashed out more than R10-million on the three-day ceremony, including flights and five-star accommodation.
One of Malema's business partners, Lesiba Gwangwa, a director of On-Point Engineering, was one of the guests.
On Saturday night, Malema partied up a storm.
At the reception, in a glass marquee on the beach, guests were entertained by Afro-pop group Mafikizolo, kwaito stars Zakes Bantwini and Professor, and popular club DJ Thulebona.
Malema often took to the dance floor and, in between the performances, mingled with friends while sipping champagne.
He left the reception shortly before midnight, took a golf cart and returned to his room at the five-star Long Beach Hotel, where rates start at R4648 a night for a beach-facing room, and go up to R14784 for a suite.
He later joined the other guests at the resort's Bombara Night Club at about 2am yesterday.
Malema took over the DJ box and performed for the guests. Popular house DJs who also performed included Black Coffee, Oskido, Vinny, Ganyani and Christos.
The party ended at 8am.
In the afternoon, Malema joined the couple and their guests at a jazz party on the beach for more performances, bar and braai.
It is estimated that the newly wed couple splashed out about R750000 to hire some of the country's top musicians to entertain their guests on the island.
Booking agents say some artists charge between R50000 and R87000 for an hour-long performance.
Entertainers and guests are expected in Johannesburg today.
