A striking Amplats worker
Johannesburg - World No 1 platinum producer Anglo Platinum [JSE:AMS] (Amplats) said on Friday it had fired 12 000 workers taking part in a three-week illegal strike, following through on tough talk against the wildcat stoppages at mines.
The workers are based at Amplats' Rustenburg operations.
Amplats also said in a statement the illegal strikes had cost it 39 000 ounces in lost output that translated into R700m in lost revenue.
Shares in Amplats rose more than 3% on the news.

By 15:25, shares in the company lost some of the gains but were still up 1.88% at R401.66, after earlier hitting R407.60.
